deinSchrank.de GmbH is a pioneer in German e-commerce for customised furniture. As a company specialising in mass customisation, furniture is produced in the highly automated production facility in Rheinbach, guided by the principles of Industry 4.0. The online configurator with 3D view allows customers to design their own personalised piece of furniture and influence the final price with every click. Customers can also take advantage of personalised advice via chat, email or telephone. Since it was founded in 2010, deinSchrank.de has successfully opened up markets in seven European countries.

The project at a glance

We began our collaboration with deinSchrank.de in a challenging initial situation. The company operated various, historically grown websites in different countries. This resulted in a high level of care and maintenance effort, both technically and in terms of design and concept, as these were each individual solutions. Added to this was the complexity of several different configurators that had to be maintained and updated separately. In an agile way of working, we held fortnightly and weekly meetings to assess progress and plan new steps. This iterative approach allowed us to react flexibly to changes and new requirements.

What were the challenges?

Design thinking workshop

One of the highlights of our collaboration with deinSchrank.de was a design thinking workshop. This creative process resulted in a complete redesign and significant improvement of the furniture configurator. We optimised the previous 2D configurator and transformed it into an innovative 3D configurator. With this new tool, customers can now design their furniture in a three-dimensional view and thus have a more realistic picture of their design. The result is the brand new 3D configurator, which offers a more user-friendly and engaging experience for deinSchrank.de customers.

Development of a modular design system and modular construction kit

Another milestone in our collaboration with deinSchrank.de was the development of a Living Styleguide, a component-based design system. This system enables efficient maintenance and expandability on a technical level and efficient implementation of new content by editors. It led to a significant reduction in maintenance work and ensured a standardised appearance across different countries. Our modular design system and module construction kit for the CMS system not only improved the mobile user experience, but also ensured a modern, emotionally appealing presentation. With over 200 modules and components displayed in an animated image, the system represents a significant upgrade to deinSchrank.de's digital presence.
